"Each morning, as the Gazelle awakes, it knows it must be
prepared to run for its life if chased by the lion. Each morning, as the Lion awakes, it knows it must catch a Gazelle in
order to eat. The Gazelle must run faster, turn quicker, and not falter to escape the Lion. The Lion must be persistent and
strong to catch the Gazelle. Be a Gazelle or a Lion, greet each day with the preparedness to survive." Author unknown

My name is Lonnie
Workman and I welcome you to the Mebane Isshinryu School of Karate located in Mebane, North Carolina. We are a "traditional"
school, in which we teach and pass down what our founders and ancestors have taught and passed down for generation after generation.
We endeavor to teach our martial art in a basic, effective, simple manner. We strive to bring out the best traits in ourselves,
honing our strengths and eliminating our weaknesses, that each of us may accomplish anything that we are willing to work hard
enough for.
We support the United Isshinryu Council, it's members and organizations within it. The efforts to
unite Isshinryu Karate into a single organization are not feasible. The UIC is the most effective endeavor to date to unite
the organizations into a group to support one another for the benefit of promoting Isshinryu Karate. We thank you!
We also support the Isshinryu Hall of Fame. Labeled as "The largest gathering of Isshinryu karate-ka in the world",
it meets yearly in early August in Tennessee for a tournament and banquet. It is a wonderful time to share information, exchange
ideas, meet old friends, make new friends, and enjoy camaraderie. It's a good place to bring together Isshinryu Karate-Ka
in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood. I look forward to meeting you there! About Sensei Lonnie Workman Lonnie Workman was born October 30, 1948 in Mebane, North Carolina, where he has
lived most all of his life. He graduated from Eastern Alamance High School in June 1967 and joined the U.S. Navy in July 1967.
His martial arts training began in San Diego, California, in November 1967 under MM1 Scott. While in the Navy he traveled extensively around the world and served in Da Nang,
Viet Nam, in 1971. After his active duty discharge in September of 1971, he continued to study various styles of martial arts
including instruction from Master Hamilton Perkins in Burlington, North Carolina. In August of 1980 he discovered Isshin-Ryu Karate and found a deep appreciation for its effectiveness. Dedicated
to the lifelong endeavor of perfecting the techniques found in Isshinryu Karate, he trained under Master Carl Mangione until
1986 when he met Master Joel Chandler. Training with Master Chandler seven days a week, Lonnie became one of Master
Chandlers most dedicated students. Some of his past credits include 1991 USKA NC State Grand Champion, a 1991 USKA ranked
National Champion, 1995 Isshinryu Hall of Fame Male Instructor of the Year, 1997 induction into the World Head of Sokeship
Council International Hall of Fame Instructor of the Year, 1999 induction into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame as the
Most Dedicated Martial Artist of the Year, and inducted into the Isshinryu Karate Hall of Fame in 2000. He has promoted karate tournaments in North Carolina and Louisiana. He has traveled
nationally giving seminars, primarily on Isshinryu Kata. He is a published writer of martial arts articles and the kata model
in the book “Isshinryu Karate-History and Kata” by Joel Chandler. He was the Senior Vice President of the Tatsuo-Kan
Society and is the owner of the Mebane Isshinryu School of Karate in Mebane, North Carolina. His steadfast devotion to Isshinryu
Karate has earned him the respect of many Isshinryu Karate martial artists and organizations.
